Matrix Synchronized Skating Academy   

1. Parents must be courteous at all times to everyone, including skaters and their fellow parents in accordance with the Skate Canada’s Code of Ethics.  

2. Parents shall refrain from any behaviour or comments which are profane, insulting, harassing, sexist, racist, abusive, disrespectful or otherwise offensive.         

3. Parents shall emphasize the importance of values like sportsmanship, respect, cooperation, competition and teamwork to their child offering praise for competing fairly, participation and skill development.      

4. Parents shall instill confidence in their child’s ability and skill development, avoiding comparisons with other skaters.     

5. Parents shall celebrate the acquisition of skills and goals achieved by their child. 

6. Parents shall respect that the professional coach is responsible and empowered for the on-ice and off-ice development of the athlete.

7. Parents, along with the professional coach and the athlete, shall be considered members of a team whose main concern is the child’s overall progress and development.

8. Parents shall adhere to the policies, procedures, rules, standards, and ethics of the Matrix Synchronized Skating Academy and Skate Canada at all times.

9. Parents will not use technology or social media to disrespect or exploit others.

10. I will not ridicule a skater for a poor performance. I will make positive comments that motivate and encourage continued efforts.

11. Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children at all Academy programs (on/off the ice). Coaches are not responsible for skaters.

12. I acknowledge that failure to comply with the Parent Code of Conduct by myself, or any member of my family, will result in disciplinary action up to and including revocation of membership.

1. Parents/Guardians are not permitted on the ice surface.

2. Parents, Guardians or designate should remain in the arena for the entire session (until the child reaches 12 years of age), unless a designated parent has been assigned/contact information left with Coach.

3. Coaches are not to be disturbed during lessons/practice times.

4. Parents are not allowed to record another child that is not their own unless they have consent from said parent.

5. Parents should not be communicating with their child while they are on the ice.

6. Parents shall ensure their child wears proper skating clothing and equipment.

1. Parents shall ensure their skaters are wearing proper skating clothing as per the Synchro Dress Code.

2. Parents, Guardians or designate are to remain in the arena for the entire session. 

3. I understand that music selection, competition selection, program components and all on ice decisions are at the coach’s discretion.

4. I will let my team manager know if my skater will be absent for a practice ASAP. I understand it will be my skaters responsibility to find out from their Team Captains what they had missed prior to their next practice. 

5. I understand that if my skater misses a practice, they may be putting their skating position in jeopardy. 

6. I understand that as the season progresses it is the coach’s discretion to adjust my skaters skating status for a competition if they feel my skaters skating skills, attendance or performance is not up to the level of the team as a whole.

7. Synchro practices are not for doing free skate (spins jump etc.) during practice, and I will ensure my skater abides by this policy. 

8. I understand that by accepting a position on a team I’m also accepting all financial obligations for the season. Not fulfilling your financial obligation can result in you being put as a member in bad standings.

9. Be prepared that some events may have to be altered, delayed or canceled. (galas, ice dog games, competitions etc.) because of reasons beyond Matrix Synchronized Skating Academy’s control.

Disciplinary Action

The Matrix Synchronized Skating Academy Committee will only commence an investigation when a written letter of complaint is forwarded. If it is determined an infraction/breech of code of conduct has occurred, the following disciplinary actions will be taken:

1st Offence: Verbal warning by the Skater’s Coach or Skating School Committee. The Skater’s Parent/Guardian will be informed of the warning if the Skater is under the Age of Majority.

2nd Offence:  Letter from the Committee will be addressed to the Skater and Parent/Guardian outlining the nature of the violation.

3rd Offence:  Suspension from all Skating School programs without compensation for 1 week. This includes all competitions and team events.

4th Offence: Skater may be asked to leave the Skating School/team at the Committee’s discretion.

In the case of a serious breach of ethics, the skater may be immediately suspended at the Committee’s discretion. In cases of suspension or expulsion, no refund of any kind will be granted.
